RUSH MISSION NEWS SUMMER 2009
Please Pray!
|
This month, we have the joy of another sharp young international graduating class at the Bible College. The woman in the center foreground, Alison Cooper, will be co-leading the college’s outreach team to Vanuatu this July. They will have the challenge of being without the Rudd’s guidance as the family will be coming to New Zealand for medical tests. We have great confidence in these leaders and look forward to a very fruitful ministry to the Pacific. Please pray for the team and for Jack, Kay, and Jay at this important time.
Richardson Visit
Christians aren’t having enough babies! That was one of the things we learned from Don Richardson when he and his wife, Carol, came to New Zealand in May. Don encouraged and inspired audiences in three cities. We enjoyed hosting them in our area where he spoke at Faith Bible College and in several churches on different mission topics, including culture keys, blessed to be a blessing, and the rise of radical Islam and the consequences for the West. Many lives were blessed by Don and Carol’s teachings, prayers, and books.

Mercy Ships News
Don and Deyon Stephens were honored with the Variety Club International Humanitarian Award in a glittering ceremony in London where they were greeted by Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Mercy Ships was founded in 1978 and has visited 70 countries providing medical care and humanitarian services valued at more than $500,000 and directly transforming the lives of 2.2 million people. Mercy Ships as an organization has a very large team working together to provide help and medical care to the poorest of the poor. We are honored to play a small part in this effort as representatives for Mercy Ships to churches and groups where John shares his own Mercy Ship experience and encourages others to get involved in various ways. Presently, the Africa Mercy desperately needs volunteer operating room nurses to serve even just two weeks on board the ship where it is docked in Benin, Africa. Anyone out there interested in an unforgettable experience in mission? To check it out as well as other personnel needs, go to www.mercyships.org for more details.
Lauren in Missions!
The base will never be the same now that Lauren has arrived! Well, maybe a slight exaggeration, but I’m sure Lauren will never be the same after her YWAM experience. She has made some great friends among her fellow DTS students and had some life-changing teaching. She heads to Fiji on June 28 for the outreach phase. Don’t forget to mention her in your prayers. Fiji is in a period of political unrest, its economy on the verge of collapse, and the locals are suffering the consequences. Her team is headed up by a Fijian staff member, so we take some comfort in that as parents!

John Receives Second M.A.
John received his Masters in Economics on May 16 from the University of Hawaii. Lauren represented the family at his ceremony. He is now preparing to teach a summer class on economics as the university’s youngest “faculty” member.
Angela at SPU
Angela has finished her first year at Seattle Pacific University. It will now be lots of California sunshine for Angela this summer. She will be staying with her Uncle Bart and Aunt Tina, working part-time at Round Table pizza and anywhere else she can to finance another year at SPU. Congratulations on surviving a year of chemistry!
